Electronic Entertainment Expo presents the latest trends

At the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), games developers and publishers presented current and upcoming products from 14th to 16th June 2016 in Los Angeles. The E3 is one of the most important and most heavily frequented trade fairs for video and computer games in the world. This year there were once more a number of highlights, including impatiently awaited continuations of popular titles and brand new brands. Quite simply a date we as a distributor of digital products cannot afford to miss.

Arms race of the big players

All major manufacturers of games consoles were represented at the E3 again, presenting the top hits of the year at their press conferences, both the continuations which everyone has been waiting for and the big surprises no-one expected. One of the major surprises was announced by Microsoft during their press conference. The makers of the Xbox announced not one, but two new consoles.

Sony came up with some surprises at its internal press conference as well. Even if the previously announced PS4 4K was not an issue, there were announcements which were met with enthusiasm: Whether “Resident Evil 7” which can be played entirely with the PlayStation VR or the special guest appearance of “Metal Gear Solid” creator Hideo Kojima, who presented his game “Death Stranding”. Further highlights were announced by Ubisoft, Bethesda, EA and Nintendo.

Virtual reality on the march

The focus at the E3 this year was on the topic virtual reality. Sony is to launch its own VR glasses in October 2016, designed for use with the Playstation 4. According to earlier reports, the Playstation VR is to cost around 400 euros. It is not yet clear, however, whether it will also be available on the German market.

50 VR-compatible games are then meant to be available by the end of the year, some of them revamped versions of well-known titles such as “Batman: Arkham”. New games are to be VR-compatible from the outset, such as “Final Fantasy XV”.

Content Card: Positive feedback

The E3 was a great success for us, with our technology we can put publishers in a position to place their products at the PoS. Talks with distributors and retailers were very positive and all led to projects being set up aimed at helping them to deliver electronic PIN’s to the PoS.

We did not see any comparable system at the E3, which was also confirmed by customers. Bearing this in mind, it is not surprising that we got such good feedback and that distributors want to grow their business successfully using our system.
