According to the Industry Association for E-Commerce and Mail Order in Germany (bevh) the trend of making purchases online is continuing. Last year, electronic trade in goods increased by 12.5 percent to 52.7 billion euros. The brodos.net online shop offers retailers the cross channel tool they need to participate in this trend as part of the connected store. It helps them create a better online presence and stand their ground vis-à-vis the online giants.
Internet trend continuing
No matter the branch: Clothing, consumer electronics, shoes, furniture or books, the trend towards buying online is continuing in 2017. Even last year sales via electronic commerce were 40.2 million euros up on 2015, reported the Industry Association for E-Commerce and Mail Order in Germany (bevh) recently.
According to the bevh, online business accounts for the majority of sales in the entire mail order and distance selling trade, where orders can still also be placed using an order form, by telephone or by fax. In total, companies in the mail order branch increased their turnover by 10.8 percent to 72.4 billion euros, 66.9 billion euros of which was generated online. The share of distance selling in the overall turnover of the German retail industry therefore increased once more, even if with a total of 12.7 percent it is still relatively small.
Online commerce more successful than ever before
According to bevh, the mail order sector is growing more and more rapidly from year to year and has now reached double figures. For next year the association expects online trade in goods to reach an increase of eleven percent. Customers order predominantly clothing, electronics and telecommunications items on the net. Alongside eBay and Amazon, retailers who make the most of several sales channels, in other words who also have a brick and mortar presence, are successful. More than 80 percent of customers order online at least once a month, many more often.
